"AWAKE" is the 4th personal short from Harrison Vincent, completed over 7 months in 2023.
The creative process was an exploration into storyboarding, character/environment design, cloth/particle/grain/smoke simulation, and rigging/animation techniques.

A sprawl of endless wind and sand, border unknown.
BUNKER
Brutalist and austere, a solace from the sun.
TOMB OF THE STORM KING - EXTERIOR
Vestige of civilization and violence.
TOMB - INTERIOR
Relics and architecture from a time forgotten.
CANYON
Legends of water, although no is around to believe them.
PRECIPICE
The highest point of celestial alignment.
COLOR SCRIPT
The time of day and use of color was an important component to the visual storytelling.
SCORE & SOUND DESIGN
Pic 1: Voiceover Chain:
To create the voice of our protagonist, I blended a heavily processed version over the original signal.
Pic 2: Face Panel Reveal:
The ~6 seconds of face panel rearrangement animation has a total of 22 SFX tracks all working in tandem to bring the big "reveal" of the piece to life.
Pic 3: Orchestral MIDI/Score:
I used Kontakt's String Ensemble in order to create the orchestral section which drives the piece. After establishing a mood with some string swells, I wanted the high energy of the staccato section to reflect the "journey" element of our protagonist's adventure.
